Why Insulate? Poorly insulated homes can lose up to 60% of their heat!
Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation are the two most effective ways to reduce heating bills and to protect the environment from global warming. Heating your house in a more efficient way leads to heating being turned on less often and for a shorter length of time. Heating bills are reduced, on average, by £380 a year. A poorly insulated house allows heat to escape through the walls, roof, windows and doors, leading to more fossil fuel being burnt to maintain a comfortable temperature. This leads to carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere, so contributing to climate change. Since the introduction of Home Information Packs, it will make selling your house easier once it’s properly insulated.
Other ways to keep the heat in Walls and roofs are the biggest heat loss culprits, but you don't have to stop there: · double glazing can cut heat loss through windows by half · insulate your hot-water tank · lag your pipes · put draught-proofing strips round windows and doors - if you can feel cold air coming in, it means warm air is going out the same way · if your home has a cellar space, under-floor insulation can help keep the warmth in
